A Happy Cat

Outside my window one day
Came the doleful cries
Of a bedraggled orange cat.

Her tail sadly hung to the ground
Her hairy coat a matted mess
Poor thing she was just then

This piteous cat, it seems, had no home
Nor food for her bleating belly
Nor sweet milk for that parch pink tongue.

I pored some cool white milk
In a gold rimmed saucer
And placed it outside my door

The hungry beast set too it with glee
Lapping away till the dish lay clean.
Then looked up with round sad eyes and cried.

So I picked her up and brought her in.
I found some bits of meat in the frig
Which I lay before before my hungered guest.

After gobbling down the entire repast
She again look up at me with large yellow eyes
then squinted and blinked in thanks.

She then strolled to a sunny spot
in the middle of the kitchen floor
lay down and proceeded to preen herself.

Now that once lost cat I call Sally Sue
Has a home from which to roam
Knowing where food and a warm spot will always be.

So now the tail is up,
Crooked like a cane
As Sally Sue prances and dances

A happy cat it seems.
